Recently, TRICARE has started to cover semaglutide and tirzepatide for certain patients for obesity management. As a clinic comprised of all military spouses, we are excited about the potential to start both military retirees and dependents on these extremely effective weight loss medications. To be eligible for our TRICARE semaglutide program, you must meet the following criteria per TRICARE’s Requirements:

• 18 years or older

• BMI 30 and over

  OR

• BMI 27 and over with a chronic medical condition (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, sleep apnea, arthritis, etc)

• Have a contraindication to or have previously failed a 3 month trial of stimulant weight loss medications in the past (phentermine). If you have not tried phentermine and are a candidate, we will need to trial this for 3 months before semaglutide or tirzepatide can get approved. This is something we can facilitate.

• Have tried diet changes and exercise for 6+ months

Some notes about prior authorizations:

• Generally a new prior authorization is required for TRICARE for every dosage of the medication, which means a new prior authorization must be done monthly. It is important to follow up monthly while in the program so can ensure this is completed promptly.

$100 billed monthly - this includes:

• Free new patient consultation to determine if you are a candidate for semaglutide or tirzepatide

• 1 month supply of semaglutide or tirzepatide sent to pharmacy of choice

• Prior authorization paperwork for medication approval (needs done monthly, each dose needs new paperwork)

• follow up televisits for medication management and lab review
