Combating Weight-Loss Plateaus On Semaglutide or Tirzepatide - Protein Edition!

Stalling during your weight loss journey can be frustrating. Luckily for most patients the solution is usually simple and boils down to daily protein intake.

While titrating up on semaglutide and tirzepatide, sometimes the fullness sensation or nausea/indigestion can make it hard to consume a normal amount of protein. Most patients I have found are not hungry in the mornings, and this is the perfect place to add in a protein packed smoothie to aid in boosting protein intake.

Below is a recipe for an easy to make, protein dense blender drink that will help to boost your daily protein intake.

If you have reached a plateau in your weight loss journey I highly recommend tracking your calories with an app like MyFitnessPal which breaks down macronutrients and will give you an idea of how much protein you are ingesting daily. Ideally most patients should be aiming for at least 100 grams of protein a day, tracking will give you an idea of how much protein you are normally consuming. Examples of protein rich foods that will help in your weight loss journey include: lean meat, fish, eggs, low fat dairy such as greek yogurt and cottage cheese, legumes, quinoa, and small quantities of nuts.

PROTEIN PACKED BLENDER DRINK RECIPE:

3/4-1 cup Fage Greek Yogurt 0% plan or Oikos Triple Zero– 18-24 g protein

1 scoop whey protein OR 2 scoop vital collagen powder – 20-24 g protein

1 cup fairlife fat free (or 2%) ultra filtered milk – 13 g protein

Frozen fruit or greens as desired (such as a handful of frozen strawberries)

Extra Flavoring/Sweetner if desired - If your smoothie is not sweet enough I recommend adding stevia drops or a splash of 0 calorie simple syrup.

Total Protein: 50-70 grams

**Patients with a history of kidney stones should use caution with supplemental protein. Please check with your urologist prior to using supplemental protein if you have a history of kidney stones.
