Your First Month on Semaglutide

Your first vial of Semaglutide has arrived and you are ready to do your first injection-but what should you expect in the first month? Read on to learn more about your first month of Semaglutide treatment.

Semaglutide is part of a class of drugs (GLP-1 agonists) that requires the dose to be titrated over time. So what does titrating a medication mean? Drug titration is defined by the medical community as increasing the dose of a medicine gradually over time to achieve maximum therapeutic benefit while minimizing side effects.

The most common side effects of Semaglutide include nausea, acid reflux/indigestion, and constipation. To decrease the chances of developing these side effects we start on a pretty small dose of Semaglutide. This is to allow your body to adjust to medicine and prepare your system to tolerate higher doses in the future. It is common to not notice a drastic difference in fullness or appetite suppression your first month of treatment. This does really vary from patient to patient. What I have found is some patients are extremely sensitive to the medicine and notice side effects and a drastic appetite and satiety (fullness sensation) difference right away. More commonly patients do not notice much of a difference in appetite within the first several weeks of treatment. This is normal, so do not be discouraged! The starting dose of Semaglutide is 0.25 mg. The big take away is to be patient with the medicine the first month of treatment as your body adjusts.
